Our little homestead was named after the first animal we bought together...a very mean and hissing black duck that could fly if we didn't keep his wings clipped. He eventually did fly away free and we spotted him for over a year around our road. Now we have a flock of Cayuga ducks and love the speckled light-dark gray eggs of the Cayuga breed which is native to New York State. We also keep a flock of assorted breeds of hens for more eggs.
The kids are also our 'little ducks' and enjoy participating in all it takes to have a bunch of farm animals and hunting dogs.
Aside from Zach's main focus of hunting dogs and my main focus of rabbits and goats, we also have 2 horses, 1 mini mule, 1 mini donkey and a hereford heifer and steer. A Jagd terrier, Rocky, is Zach's latest addition to the hounds and will be eventually used for a bear dog although he did just kill his first rat on his own at 4 months! He will eventually be bred to our Patterdale terrior, Tango. They are used mainly for varmit control around our place.
